From then on I have been able to lean on my God and I strive to put on the Armor of God. My relationship with Him has had a lot of up and down times, but I know where I stand with Him.
As far as developing my passion for children, I grew up with my parents being in charge of a lot of things in the church. My mom was children’s director and I was always right there ready to help her. I wanted to grow up and do what she did. I loved all the behind the scenes work, everything she did to make sure the kids had fun and learned. When I was old enough I was able to start filling in, because I was available and always there my mom would pull me in to help, and soon I was able to start teaching on my own. I would teach children’s church, Sunday School and help out in Teamkid. It felt so good when the kids wanted to hear what I had to say, wanted to play with me, and when I heard them repeat something I taught them, I fell in love with the kids and teaching.
When I first started thinking about Africa, I was 15 and I was in Lifeway Christian bookstore looking for a book to read.I came across this book called “Mission Africa”. The book told about how many kids are orphaned from AIDS, and how many families struggle. I begin really thinking about it, and grew curious about these people, about all the stories I read. I wanted to go there myself to see it, to be there for these kids and its something I just could not stop thinking about, and my heart just got hooked on Africa.
